Local Author Elaine Beachy Publishes New Book
Writing is prolific in our county! Manassas resident Elaine Beachy recently published her second children’s book featuring two adorable rabbits. Biff and Becka’s Stupendous Vacation, follows on the heels of her first book, Biff and Becka’s Springtime Adventures, published last year.
Elaine’s urge to reach out to children through writing began more than two decades ago, when she witnessed a child being abused in public. “I wanted to write for kids to let them know how things should be in the home and that good family structure does exist,” Elaine says.
She took a course on writing for children and received a diploma from the Institute of Children’s Literature in Redding Ridge, CT, in 1992, and although the arrival of grandchildren put her “official” writing on hold, she wrote things here and there over the years. In 2010 she shared a story she had written with a friend, who insisted she continue!
Elaine’s books are Christian-focused and have questions for each chapter at the end of the book, allowing children and parents to ask, for example, how they might feel if something similar happened to them. “This lets children relate to family and friends with honesty and respect while providing guidance to parents who may be struggling,” Elaine says.
Biff and Becka’s Stupendous Vacation shows how the young rabbits deal with the disappointment of a canceled vacation. “It has a very surprising outcome,” Elaine says. “They learn what they can do during a ‘staycation’ and discover something very special.” The book is geared for children ages 9-11 to read on their own, or parents can read it to younger children.
Elaine is holding a book signing June 29 from 2 – 4 p.m. at Brilliance Educator Supplies in Manassas. Find out more on her Facebook page,www.facebook.com/author.elaine.beachy, where you can order a copy of the book, which is also available on Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble.com, and WestBowPress.com.
